European football expert Andy Brassell believes Ibrahim Mbaye could accelerate Aston Villa’s desire to ‘step up a level’.

Mbaye is shaping up to be a player who will dominate the rumour mill this summer due to his lack of playing time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Why Mbaye is ‘clearly unhappy’ at PSG

The Senegal international, who is regarded as one of the brightest talents going, started just 12 of his 31 appearances for PSG in the 2025/26 campaign.

Given PSG boast a litany of world class wingers in Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Lee Kang-in, Mbaye faces an uphill battle to secure a more prominent role in the team.

Such is the squeeze for a starting spot, even Barcola, who started 21 times for the Parisians last term, is eyeing up an exit having requested to leave the club.

Mbaye’s agents have subsequently been putting out feelers to clubs, letting them know the 18-year-old may be ready for a fresh start to accelerate his growth.

However, the teenage sensation’s full focus at present is with Senegal at the World Cup.

Mbaye even scored the African nation’s sole goal in their 3-1 loss to France as they look to reach the knockout stages for just the third time in history.

Brassell: I ‘expect’ Mbaye to end up in the Premier League

Speaking to talkSPORT, Brassell believed the Premier League would be fertile ground for Mbaye to become a ‘big star’.

And Villa, who go into the new season on the back of winning the Europa League and a fourth-place finish, could be the ideal destination for that to happen.

“Premier League clubs are interested in him,” Brassell said.

“Aston Villa have been sniffing around him.

Mbaye has been with PSG since 2018Getty

“He has made it clear through his agents that he is considering his future. He’s got two years left on the first professional contract he signed with PSG.

“He wants to play. He wants more gametime. That’s understandable. He’d be a fantastic fit for the Premier League.

“You look at Villa returning to the Champions League, hoping to step up a level… they work around having a dynamic midfield.

“I think it would be really interesting seeing him in front of Boubacar Kamara. The fact he can play in those wide roles as well… the sky is the limit. He’s got so many strings to his bow.

“PSG still have the chance to persuade him to stay, although he is clearly unhappy, and whichever club buys him in the end is going to have the chance to really shape a big star of the next four, five, six years.

“He’s so mature for his age. I expect him to end up in the Premier League at some point.

“And I imagine PSG will insert some kind of buy-back clause because he’s got the personality to succeed at a club like that.”

Big summer awaits at Villa Park

Villa are looming as a team that will have high-impact comings and going this window.

talkSPORT understands goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has informed Juventus he wants to join them, although a deal is far from completion.

Villa are also braced for heavy interest in Morgan Rogers, who finished the season with 14 goals and 12 assists.

Arsenal are already figuring as a major contender for Rogers’ signature, with preliminary talks between the club and the England international’s advisors having already taken place.
