Real Madrid closely tracking 19-year-old RB Leipzig star after explosive World Cup start

Real Madrid’s scouting department has spent much of the World Cup searching for the next top talent, and a name appears on their radar.

As such, RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande has emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament so far, attracting attention from several big clubs with his displays for Ivory Coast.

In fact, according to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid were among the teams closely following the 19-year-old during Ivory Coast’s opening World Cup fixture against Ecuador, where he delivered a top performance.

Real Madrid scouts monitor Diomande

Real Madrid’s interest in Diomande did not begin during the tournament, but the World Cup has provided another opportunity for the club to assess his progress against elite opposition.

According to the report, scouts from the Spanish giants attended Ivory Coast’s opening match against Ecuador, a game that ended in a 1-0 victory for the African side.

Diomande played a decisive role in the result and was rewarded with the Man of the Match award.

In fact, his performance left a strong impression on those in attendance.

Among the figures present was Juni Calafat, Real Madrid’s chief international scout and one of the architects behind several of the club’s most successful recruitment operations in recent years.

Calafat travelled to monitor multiple players, and Diomande was naturally one of the main attractions.

The teenager justified that attention with a mature display on one of football’s biggest stages.

RB Leipzig’s valuation is a problem

The Ivory Coast international joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2025 after a quiet spell at Leganes.

Despite his limited role in Spanish football at the time, the Bundesliga club invested €20 million to bring him to Germany, convinced they had identified another high-potential talent.

That decision is already paying dividends as Leipzig have previously rejected an offer worth €100 million from Liverpool, a clear indication that it would take more than that to sign him.

Furthermore, they believe his value could rise even further if he continues performing at the same level during the World Cup.

For now, Leipzig remain under no pressure to sell and are in a strong position to dictate terms, but Real Madrid’s interest could affect the player’s mind.
