David on ‘different playing style’ for CANMNT, but eager for Juventus stay

Jonathan David admits his World Cup form for Canada might be because they ‘have a different playing style’ to Juventus, but is adamant he wants to stay at the club.

The striker struggled badly in his first Serie A season after arriving as a free transfer from LOSC, albeit with at least €12.5m in various costs and commissions.

He scored eight goals with five assists in 46 competitive games for the Bianconeri, often seeming to look lost under first Igor Tudor and then Luciano Spalletti.

It was therefore shocking to see him score a hat-trick for Canada in their 6-0 World Cup victory over Qatar.

“I think when you play for your club or national team, it is going to be different, because these are two very different teams,” David told RSI Sport.

“Canada have a different playing style, so more or less everything changes.”

Having said that, he seems to have absolutely no intention of interrupting his experience in Turin, even if Juventus might be more eager to part with him and recoup some cash.

“I have a five-year contract, so as far as I am concerned, I will be staying here,” he replied when pressed on his future.

Even with Canada, David had scored in only one of his previous 10 games before that treble in a 6-0 thrashing of Qatar.

At Juve this season, he found the net in only eight matches out of 46 played.
