Declan Rice dismissed any injury concerns after limping off in England’s 4-2 win over Croatia in their World Cup opener.

With England in the ascendency, Tuchel turned to the cavalry to secure a key three points to kick off the Three Lions’ bid to win a first major piece of silverware since 1966.

Rice provided the assist for Harry Kane’s second goal against England

And as Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Morgan Rogers limbered up, Rice’s number was one of those to flash up on the big screen.

The Arsenal man looked to be hobbling off, prompting fears that Rice had sustained an injury in the Group L triumph.

talkSPORT’s England correspondent, Faye Carruthers, did move to allay fears that Rice had suffered a serious problem.

“He did look like he was moving uncomfortably,” Faye began.

“But he didn’t go down the tunnel, so not an injury, clearly.”

And the man himself gave a positive update after the game.

Speaking to ITV, he said: “I’m good as gold.

“It’s just what I’ve been nursing in the second-half of the season with Arsenal, little neural pains here and there.

“But it was just a precaution and I’ll be back out there against Ghana.”

Rice played a key role for the Three Lions on Wednesday night having registered the assist for Harry Kane and England’s second in Dallas.

Kane headed in the Arsenal man’s outswinging corner five minutes before the interval, though England were forced to go in at the break level after Petra Musa’s goal on the stroke of half time.

The 27-year-old should have perhaps had at least one more assist having twice picked out Nico O’Reilly from second-half corners.

And the Gunners star could have had a goal of his own as he tested Croatia Dominik Livakovic from range on England’s way to a 4-2 win.

England now face Ghana on matchday two of their 2026 World Cup campaign, with Rice expected to start against the Black Stars next week.
