Former Brazil World Cup winner makes explosive claim about Barcelona winger: ‘Facing family and financial problems’

Barcelona forward Raphinha has found himself at the centre of an unexpected controversy during Brazil’s World Cup campaign, with former international Marcos Andre Batista Santos, popularly known as Vampeta, making claims about the player’s personal situation.

The comments surfaced shortly after confirmation that Raphinha would miss Brazil’s upcoming clash against Scotland due to injury. 

However, the discussion shifted away from football after Vampeta suggested the Barcelona winger was dealing with significant off-field issues.

What was said?

Speaking on the ‘Red Cast’ podcast, the 2002 World Cup winner alleged that Raphinha is currently experiencing difficulties in personal life.

While discussing the Barcelona attacker, Vampeta claimed, “Raphinha is facing serious family and financial problems. 

“He’s praying he can join Al Hilal; he’s having a really tough time.”

The former midfielder went on to explain that it is “a family problem” and that “he is counting on joining Al Hilal to turn things around.”

Close associate rejects the allegations

Understandably, the claims did not go unanswered and among those who reacted was Igor Padilha, a figure known to be close to Raphinha.

Responding publicly to Vampeta’s remarks, he strongly disputed the former footballer’s version of events, stating, “You’ll have to explain these lies, my friend.”

At the moment, neither Raphinha nor his representatives have publicly commented on the matter.

Right now, while the off-field allegations remain unverified and disputed, Brazil’s medical staff have provided clarity regarding Raphinha’s current physical condition.

The Brazilian national team confirmed that the winger suffered a “muscle injury to the back of his right thigh” during the match against Haiti. 

The problem forced him off the pitch after he experienced discomfort in the affected area.

Although the exact severity of the injury has not been disclosed, Brazil have indicated that Raphinha will undergo an intensive recovery programme. 

Importantly for both club and country, he will continue to stay with the national team squad during the World Cup.
