Scotland fans are making the most of their World Cup trip.

While the national team‘s base camp is in Charlotte, North Carolina, the fans who have travelled over to North America have set themselves up in Boston, where they have already played their first of two group stage games in the city.

After a 1-0 win over Haiti thanks to a goal from John McGinn, their next match comes against the reigning AFCON champions Morocco, again at Boston Stadium – known as Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to NFL fans – on June 19.

While they wait for their next fixture, saying that the Scots are taking over the city would be a vast understatement.

Fortunately, they have been well-received by the majority of Bostonians, with some even pleading if they can return on a yearly basis.

“We need a year Scottish reunion of events with these people because they are so much fun,” NESN’s Lucy Burdge claimed. “These people are awesome.

“So I think every year we need them to come to Boston … They brought their kilts, they brought their bagpipes, they brought their energy, and I think we should do something like this every year. …

“Why they are so welcome and happy is [because] they are embracing our life and what this city is. … They are having the time of their lives.”

She later added: “I am kind of afraid that this city is going to run out of beer, genuinely. As a city, the bars are going to run out of beer.”

Burdge isn’t too far off because according to a report from NBC Boston on Wednesday, the Scotland fans have in fact drunk the bars dry over the weekend.

“Sam Adams downtown ran out of their signature lager over the weekend and needed an emergency delivery to keep up with World Cup fans. And they’re not the only ones running dry,” the reporter said.

“White Bull Tavern may have run out of Scotland’s iconic Tennents beer, but that didn’t stop the party.”

“We had our biggest week ever last week,” the owner of The Dubliner told NBC Boston.

“Managed to plan ahead and get an extra delivery [of Tennents] last Saturday, and I was told yesterday that the distributor has run out also. He’s getting his today and the rest of the city’s getting theirs tomorrow.”

One bar said “We tripled St. Patrick’s Day.”

Dave Portnoy joins the Tartan Army

The Scots also made themselves heard when approximately 5,000 members of the Tartan Army filled up Fenway Park to watch the MLB clash between the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers, with Rangers reporter Laura Stickells claiming that it was the “best environment I’ve been in other than a playoff game.”

With the locals buzzing over Scotland’s arrival into the city, even Boston native Dave Portnoy is getting in on the fun.

The Barstool Sports founder revealed that he has caught World Cup fever for the first time ever, and all credit goes to the Tartan Army.

“Seeing these countries come into the United States, and we’ve got the Scots going absolutely bananas, the Tartan Army in Boston,” Portnoy said before singing ‘No Scotland, No party.‘

“I have no interest into going to these games, but I may go to Boston on Friday and hang out with the Tartan Army all day and go to the game. …

Portnoy also noted fans of The Netherlands and Norway as others who have made him excited about the World Cup.

“I’m rooting for these [countries]. I’m more into them than the U.S.,” Portnoy continued. “Yes I want the USA to win, but watching all these foreign countries and all their fans. Like there’s 20,000 Scots in Boston right now, and they’re all exploring the United States. …

“I have become caught up in World Cup mania. It’s the best. I wasn’t anticipating it. It caught me off guard. … I have World Cup fever.

“I don’t necessarily have USA soccer World Cup fever, but I have Scotland, Norway, The Netherlands and Japan World Cup fever and watching them just have the time of their lives.”

Safe to say Stool Presidente is impressed.
