England fans at home might be sweltering in record-breaking heat tonight, but it’s a different story for the players over in America.

The World Cup continues as the Three Lions take on Ghana in their second game, and supporters might be getting hot and bothered, with unprecedented temperatures forecast in the UK.

While plenty has been made of the heat out in North America this summer, the UK is in the midst of its hottest June on record.

With a heatwave sweeping the country, temperatures in parts of the country, including London, are expected to peak at around 36 or 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

This would make it the UK’s hottest June day on record, which previously stood at 35.6 degrees C set in 1976.

Things will have cooled down slightly by the time England kick off at 9pm, but there won’t be much respite for fans.

The Met Office forecasts London will be around 31C when the action gets underway at the Gillette Stadium in Boston.

Despite the brutal conditions, fans up and down the country will still be heading out in their numbers to enjoy the game, but they might be slightly jealous of their fellow supporters Stateside.

No problem in Boston

As fans gear up for a sweltering night back home, they will be relieved to hear that England’s stars won’t be battling the same heat.

In fact, the conditions are ideal out in Boston, with the temperature set to be around 21C when the Three Lions kick off at 4pm local time.

Light rain and a gentle breeze are expected, so the match shouldn’t be affected by any further weather chaos.

This will be a welcome change from their last game, with Thomas Tuchel‘s side powering to a 4-2 win over Croatia in almost 35C at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

But the extreme heat would not have bothered England’s players due to the air conditioning inside the Texas venue.

There will be no need for cooling measures at the Gillette Stadium though, as the Three Lions look to make it back-to-back wins tonight.

Tuchel’s side got off to a winning start last Wednesday as they beat Croatia in a thrilling opener in Dallas.

England were pegged back twice in the first half against Croatia after Harry Kane scored twice, with one coming from the spot, before second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford secured the three points.

And they face a different kind of test in Boston, with this only the second meeting between England and Ghana – and the first in a competitive international.

Weather havoc

With a heatwave set to play its part back home as England play tonight, this will mark a welcome distraction from the US weather.

An alert was sent out via text message, which warned of ‘destructive’ 80mph winds, while there were also tornado sirens.

But this didn’t halt Les Bleus’ progress, who built on their 1-0 half-time lead after the restart, with Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele scoring to wrap up the win.
