Manchester City centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov caught the eye during Uzbekistan’s 2026 World Cup defeat to Colombia for all the wrong reasons.

Fabio Cannavaro’s side made their tournament bow against the South American powerhouse in the early hours of Thursday morning (UK Time).

Diaz scored one and assisted another as Colombia opened their 2026 World Cup with a 3-1 win over Uzbekistan

The White Wolves were expected to fall to defeat to Colombia in their Group K opener, and fell behind to a Daniel Munoz header shortly before the break.

Uzbekistan were level on the hour mark through Abbosbek Fayzullaev with his nation’s first ever World Cup goal.

However, Colombia went ahead five minutes later as Luis Diaz bagged his first goal of the competition before Jaminton Campaz wrapped up the three points in second-half stoppage time.

Khusanov put in a fairly sub-par display against Colombia and made the headlines for the wrong reasons as he wiped out a cameraman in the first half of the group game.

As both Khusanov and Diaz chased down a long ball in the 34th minute, the City star sent the cameraman tumbling to the ground.

Considering Khusanov has often been referred to as a ‘Tank’, it’s not a surprise that the operator on the sidelines required medical treatment.

And a separate video also shows the cameraman being taken away in an ambulance following the collision.

It’s still yet to be determined whether the man in question is OK following the incident.

However, the 22-year-old was carded for a supposed foul on Diaz as the City man played the full 90 minutes for Uzbekistan.

Next up for Cannavaro’s men is a meeting with European giants Portugal next week.

Portugal faltered in their first 2026 World Cup clash as they failed to make their dominance count in a 1-1 draw with DR Congo.

Roberto Martinez’s men took an early lead in Houston through Joao Neves.

However, while Portugal had the lion-share of possession, they failed to break down the Leopards and were made to share the spoils after Yoane Wissa headed DR Congo level shortly before the break.
