The special tattoo Nico O’Reilly is hoping to add after England’s World Cup campaign
O’Reilly hopes to add more ink to his body as he targets glory at his first major tournament
Nico O’Reilly is considering getting a World Cup tattoo if he can help England to glory in the United States.
The left-back has emerged as a key player for Thomas Tuchel, starting in the 4-2 win over Croatia and being expected to keep his place for the clash with Ghana in Boston.
And O’Reilly already has a host of tattoos, including one with the Manchester phone code – 0161 – on his left arm as he is determined not to forget his roots.
But he would like to have a more glamorous image inked on his body if he can help England triumph in New York on 19 July.
“Maybe a World Cup one,” O’Reilly said. “It’s a dream to play at a World Cup. If we win it’ll be something that sticks with me forever.”
The Manchester City defender already has a tattoo that reads “no risk, no story” and it is a motto he tries to live by.
He explained: “For me personally, I just like to risk. I think if you don't risk and you don't take the chance, then you never know what's going to happen.”
O’Reilly has a fine record in major matches, including scoring both goals in City’s Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal, and he feels they make him perform at a high level.
“I love a big occasion,” he said. “I think it brings more out of me when I am stepping up to the bigger stages and I like playing under pressure. I feel like I thrive off it and just enjoy it.”
