Will France host the FIFA World Cup forty years after the unforgettable 1998 tournament? L’Equipe understands that France’s Minister of Sports, Marina Ferrari, will be handed a report on Saturday which recommends the country to bid to host the 2033 Women’s UEFA Euro, the 2036 Men’s UEFA Euro, the 2033 or 2037 FIFA Club World Cup, and the FIFA 2038 World Cup.
The 118-page report has been put together by Territoires d’événements sportifs, an association created in the wake of the France-held UEFA Euro 2016. The report provides an assessment of stadiums across the country and calls for France to bid for a major football competition, which could facilitate the modernization of its largest grounds.
The report adds that France is one of a few countries in the world able to host a sporting event the scale of a 48-team World Cup. To reduce the tournament’s carbon footprint, a joint bid with a neighboring country – such as Germany – is being considered.
