Marc Guehi must have been watching a different England game to everyone else – Thomas Tuchel’s men were rubbish against Ghana.

That’s the view of legendary talkSPORT broadcaster Adrian Durham, who did not mince his words when discussing the Three Lions’ 0-0 draw on Tuesday.

An exciting 4-2 win over Croatia in England’s opening World Cup Group L match last week had fans dreaming about a first major trophy in 60 years.

But England couldn’t replicate the performance against their African opponents, with the team now drawing their second group game for a fourth tournament in a row.

While Tuchel‘s side remain top of the group on goal difference ahead of Saturday’s final match against Panama, supporters have been left feeling deflated by the display.

Though Manchester City centre-back Guehi, who made his first World Cup start, saw encouraging signs from England in Boston.

What did Guehi say about England’s performance?

Speaking to talkSPORT’s England correspondent Faye Carruthers, Guehi remained upbeat in his assessment.

He said: “I think it was a good performance actually, of course not the result we wanted.

“But there’s a lot of good things in the game, a lot of chances that we’ve created for ourselves, positive that we’ve got a clean sheet today as well.

“So I think there’s a lot of positives to take from it and a lot of things to build on from this game to take onto the next one.”

Guehi added: “They were a good side, a lot of good players, quality on the counter-attack.

“And I think we have to give credit to them, I still think that the game was in our hands, but like I said there was a lot of positives in the game.

“And it’s only important that we look to the next game and build.”

Guehi then finished off by urging the England supporters to stick with the team – despite their underwhelming result.

He remarked: “Thank you for your support as always, you definitely made yourself heard, we definitely felt that on the pitch.

“And stick by us because we’re going to need you and we just keep going.”

Durham gave his immediate reaction on air about the positive comments made by Guehi, who he gave a 3/10 to in his England ratings for being ‘so slow on the ball sometimes’.

Marc my words

Left stunned by what he had to say, Durham said: “Some interesting takes from Marc Guehi.

“I’d say it’s a hot take that it was a good performance, I’m not sure I agree with that.

“But listen, it’s about opinions.”

Durham was also quick to stress that England will always bring you back down to Earth whenever you start to dream as he lambasted the performance in a stinging blast.

He remarked: “What a load of rubbish that was, I mean you get your hopes up every single time with England at a tournament.

“And yes they may well go through the group, and yes they may well get to the knockout stages. But what kind of statement was that?

“When you’ve had such a great second half performance against Croatia, the connection between the players and the fans at the end of that game.

No England star scored higher than a 5/10 in Durham’s England player ratings

“And all those fans make their way here and they’ve spent a fortune, and what they have to witness, honestly, I just wonder why we bother.”

He concluded by saying: “You could change the players, you could change the manager, it’s still England.

“It’s still England at tournaments and this is what they do.

“We got hopes up, ‘This is different’ we said, but it’s the same old England, typical England.

“It’s finished 0-0, but maybe, just maybe, it might have a different ending.”
