Chelsea’s Malo Gusto sustains injury in France training

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto (23) sustained an injury during a training game that mixed the players not involved in France’s FIFA World Cup opener against Senegal (3-1) and youth players from New England Revolution.

Gusto sustained an involuntary hit on his foot from teammate Lucas Digne, L’Équipe understands. It forced the Olympique Lyonnais academy product to withdraw from the game. However, the publication adds that there is no concern among France’s medical staff.

He may, therefore, be involved in Les Bleus’ training session on Thursday. Iraq are France’s next opponents.

In any case, Gusto will not necessarily be expected to start in the upcoming fixture. The Chelsea defender is second choice, behind Barcelona’s Jules Koundé, whilst Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaire-Emery is also an option in this position for Didier Deschamps.

Currently, France are second in Group I on goal difference. They are behind Norway, who beat Iraq 4-1 on Tuesday.
