Liverpool Forward Federico Chiesa Ready for Iraola Reset

Federico Chiesa is understood to be intent on staying at Liverpool this summer, with the Italy international keen to fight for his place under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

The 28-year-old has again been linked with a return to Serie A, with Juventus and Como both credited with interest. However, according to journalist Mirko Di Natale, Chiesa’s current preference is to remain at Anfield and attempt to force his way into Liverpool’s plans.

That stance is significant because Chiesa’s first full season on Merseyside never truly gathered momentum. He was used sparingly under Arne Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2024/25 before a major drop off in 2025/26 led to his dismissal on May 30 2026.

Iraola Offers Fresh Opportunity

Iraola’s arrival changes the dynamic. Chiesa appears to view the managerial reset as a chance to prove he can offer more than late game cameos and rotation minutes.

Across the 2025/26 campaign, Chiesa made 33 appearances in all competitions but started only twice, totalling 686 minutes. In the Premier League, he featured 23 times, started once and played just 278 minutes, scoring twice and adding one assist.

His overall return, 3 goals and 3 assists in 686 minutes, works out at one goal contribution every 114.3 minutes. For a player operating largely from the bench, that is a respectable output and one Liverpool must weigh carefully before deciding whether to entertain offers.

Serie A Interest Remains

Juventus interest is not new. The Turin club explored a move in January, when Italian reports suggested a return was possible. Liverpool’s valuation, however, complicated matters and no deal progressed.

Como are also said to be monitoring the situation and could offer Champions League football, while Juventus would likely provide a clearer route to regular Serie A minutes.

Yet Chiesa’s preference, at least for now, appears clear. Unless Liverpool actively push for a sale, his intention is to stay and compete.

Liverpool Must Decide His Role

For Liverpool, the question is whether Chiesa fits Iraola’s plans.

Chiesa has not yet become the player Liverpool hoped they were signing, but the flashes remain. If Iraola sees value in his direct running, pressing and penalty box instincts, this summer may bring a genuine reset.

For now, Federico Chiesa wants Liverpool. The next move belongs to the club.
