Scotland captain Weir joins Champions League runners-up Lyon

Caroline Weir's old and new clubs were beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League

Scotland captain Caroline Weir is "super excited" to have signed for Lyon, who she regards as the club with the greatest history in women's football, after leaving Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old 2025 women's Ballon d'Or nominee has agreed a three-year contract with the French champions and Champions League runners-up.

Midfielder Weir spent four years in Madrid, scoring 63 goals in 125 appearances, and was voted Real player of the year in 2023 and 2025, as well as the Spanish league player of the year three years ago.
