Man City 2026 World Cup Watch: Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly left frustrated in England draw with Ghana

Manchester City’s English contingent were left frustrated by a stubborn Ghana outfit on Tuesday night as the African nation secured a vital point to qualify for the knockout stages.

Thomas Tuchel’s England were forced to settle for a frustrating point at Boston Stadium, as a disciplined and heavily resilient Ghana successfully neutralised the Three Lions’ attacking rhythm that had previously dismantled Croatia.

Knowing that a second successive Group L victory would mathematically punch their ticket to the last 32, England struggled immensely to crack open the Black Stars’ compact defensive shape.

It took a sluggish England 57 minutes just to register their first shot on target, while simultaneously looking highly vulnerable to the counter-attack on several anxious occasions as the game devolved into a disjointed, chaotic midfield battle.

Seeking to shatter the stubborn deadlock, Thomas Tuchel rotated his creative personnel in the second half, introducing Bukayo Saka – whose minutes are being protected due to a persistent Achilles issue – and replacing Jude Bellingham with the dynamic Morgan Rogers.

The tactical adjustments almost reaped instant rewards when Saka forced a sensational save from Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, followed shortly by Manchester City left-back Nico O’Reilly, who rose highest to header a chance against the crossbar.

Centre-back Marc Guéhi also saw a powerful header agonisingly cleared off the goal-line by an alert Ghanaian defender in the dying minutes. While England firmly maintain their position at the summit of Group L, they must now wait to get three points from their final game against Panama to secure top spot.
