Bukayo Saka is not starting for the second consecutive England game with Noni Madueke getting the nod.
Madueke started the 4-2 win over Croatia last week, and he has been selected on the right again as the Three Lions take on Ghana, live on talkSPORT.
Saka isn’t available to start at this moment in timeGettySaka has to make do with a place on the bench and possible minutes as a substitute once more.
The Arsenal star arrived to the pre-World Cup training camp late due to being given extra time off after the Champions League final.
However, while Madueke and Declan Rice started the final warm-up game against Costa Rica, Saka had to come off the bench.
And it was exactly the same against Croatia as he came on as a substitute for 18 minutes.
He did set up the fourth goal for Marcus Rashford, but hasn’t been given the nod against Ghana.
Why is Saka not playing?
Saka has been managing an Achilles problem for the majority of 2026, but he is finally back in full training for England.
Before this point, the 24-year-old was taking part in certain sessions and individual training.
As a result, his match load has been carefully managed every step of the way.
This has seen him limited to just substitute appearances so far with the hope that he’ll be back fully fit near the latter stages of the tournament.
Saka’s fitness is being managed at the World Cup so farGettyWhat has Tuchel said?
Speaking about Saka ahead of the Ghana match, Thomas Tuchel said: “I’m not in the physio department, but he hasn’t missed a day of training, so I think that’s a good thing.
“I think he’s played so many games throughout these last few years. You can see he’s a crucial player for Arsenal. He’s a top quality player and he brings quality to the pitch, for Arsenal and England.
“I think he’s very important, as everyone can see. Managing niggles going into a competition is very important for the latter stages. You need important players like him to be ready to play and step up when called upon.”
But Tuchel had already warned that Saka wouldn’t be in a position to start until possibly Panama.
“Bukayo is ready and will get more and more ready.
“Once we get to the last game in the group it is the moment. He was strong yesterday [Tuesday] in training in small spaces.
“It’s just a matter of if the game is open and up and down.”
