Inter have identified Leo Ostigard as a potential replacement for Stefan De Vrij, with the Norwegian centre-back’s impressive season at Genoa catching the eye of the Nerazzurri as they plan their defensive rebuild ahead of 2026/27.
De Vrij’s departure is now virtually confirmed, with the veteran Dutchman closing in on a move to Panathinaikos after Inter accepted his decision not to renew.
Oumar Solet remains the priority signing to replace Francesco Acerbi, but Inter are also looking at options to fill the void left by De Vrij, and Ostigard has emerged as a serious candidate, according to La Repubblica, via CalcioMercato.

Ostigard has enjoyed an outstanding season in Liguria, making 31 Serie A appearances and contributing five goals, one of the standout individual campaigns at the club.
His performances have continued into the World Cup, where he scored against Iraq for Norway. The 26-year-old also has Serie A pedigree beyond Genoa, having been part of Napoli’s Scudetto-winning squad in 2022-23.
The challenge for Inter is convincing Genoa to sell. The club exercised their permanent purchase option from Rennes for just €2.5 million in January and have no desire to let him go cheaply.
Ostigard himself has expressed no wish to leave. Inter may need to wait until Provedel, Palestra and Solet are confirmed before revisiting the pursuit.
