Liverpool appear to have beaten Newcastle United’s move for Spain forward Victor Munoz.
Newcastle were leading the race to sign the Spain international and had been in advanced talks before the Reds swooped in.
The Reds have agreed personal terms with Munoz and have activated his €40 million release clause, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Munoz has also completed his medical. He is set to become the first signing under Liverpool new manager, Andoni Iraola.
Munoz enjoyed a brilliant campaign with Osasuna last term, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 36 matches across all competitions.
The 22-year-old was one of the best dribblers in La Liga last season. He completed 2.2 dribbles per game, the sixth highest in the division.
He is very direct as he consistently looks to attack the goal. He ranked second among Osasuna players for both total shots and shots on target per game.
Munoz offers a counter-attacking threat, always likes to cut inside, and has a knack for crossing.
The Spaniard can operate anywhere across any frontline and in the midfield. His versatility could be one reason Liverpool stole a march on Newcastle for his signature.
Munoz scored on his senior debut for Spain in a 3-0 international friendly win over Serbia in March. He is in their squad for the ongoing 2026 World Cup.
His arrival is not expected to impact Liverpool’s pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, as they aim to sign two forwards this summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether Munoz’s signing would affect Cody Gakpo’s future. The Dutch forward has recently been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
