The World Cup is ticking along nicely, with some enthralling games and surprising results produced already.

As we head towards the end of matchweek two and look ahead to the final group games, it's worth looking at the handful of teams that already know their fate.

While some of the top teams in the World Cup have already qualified for the next round, there are some who will already be booking their flights home.

The teams who are already out out of the World Cup

Any team that has lost their first two group games is almost certain of an early exit from the tournament, which means the following four nations are out of the World Cup:

  • Haiti (Group C)
  • Turkey (Group D)
  • Tunisia (Group F)
  • Jordan (Group J)

Haiti lost their opener to Scotland and were then defeated by Brazil, so they are bottom of Group C and will be going home after game three.

In a surprising turn of events, Turkey have struggled at this year's tournament and have lost their opening two games to Australia and Paraguay so they're out.

Tunisia have arguably been the worst team in the competition so far. They sacked their manager after one game, and then got hammered by Japan. Thanks to the head-to-head record determining group position, we know Tunisia will land at the bottom of Group F.

Finally, Jordan are out of the tournament after losing to both Austria and Algeria in Group J. They're up against holders Argentina next, so their fortunes are unlikely to improve, either.

Teams at risk of World Cup exit

There are two anomalies to the two defeats and out rule, with both Senegal and Iraq having lost their first two games but still having a chance to progress.

The Group I pair face each other in the final group game, and if one of them wins they'll be in the mix to qualify as one of the best-placed third-place teams.

Meanwhile, teams that only have one point on the board after two group games will need to produce something in the final game to have a shot at qualifying.

That leaves the likes of Czechia and South Africa (both Group A), Bosnia and Qatar (both Group B), Ecuador and Curacao (both Group E), New Zealand (Group G), and Saudi Arabia (Group H) all at risk of dropping out of the tournament after game three.

On a more positive note, there are a few nations already guaranteed to feature in the round of 32.

Here are the teams that have qualified from their groups:

  • Mexico (Group A)
  • USA (Group D)
  • Germany (Group E)
  • France (Group I)
  • Norway (Group I)
  • Argentina (Group J)
