Carlos Quieroz will be a very familiar face to plenty of football fans.
The 73 year old is at his fifth World Cup in a row as a manager having previously taken his native Portugal to the tournament in 2010; Iran in 2014, 2018, and 2022; and now Ghana at the ongoing 2026 edition.
Queiroz even led South Africa to qualification for the 2002 World Cup to boot, but quit the job before leading out his side in Japan and South Korea. But his history on international football's biggest stage is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Carlos Quieroz's journey to the 2026 World Cup with Ghana
Carlos Queiroz had two spells as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United (Image credit: Getty Images)For some time, Queiroz was best-recognised in England for his two spells Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United.
The former goalkeeper was at Old Trafford for the 2002/03 season, having previously managed Portugal under-20s, the senior Portuguese side, Sporting, NY/NJ Metrostars, Nagoya Grampus Eight, the UAE, and that unhappily-ended spell with South Africa.
Carlos Queiroz had one season in charge of Real Madrid (Image credit: Getty Images)Queiroz's work at United attracting the attention of Real Madrid, who brought him in as manager in summer 2003 to work with a star-studded squad that included Ronaldo, Luis Figo, Raul, Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Claude Makelele and David Beckham.
Real did not enjoy a good season by their own high standards, however, as they finished fourth in La Liga; lost to Real Zaragoza in the Copa del Rey final; and crashed out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals thanks to a shock defeat to Monaco.
Queiroz duly returned to Manchester United, this time staying for four years and playing a part in the club's rebuild around the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, helping the side to win the Champions League in 2007/08.
He was not universally popular, however: Roy Keane infamously had a massive falling-out with Quieroz that contributed to the midfielder's decision to leave the club.
Queiroz has plied his trade exclusively in international football since leaving United again to take over as Portugal boss in 2008.
Carlos Queiroz led Portugal at the 2010 World Cup (Image credit: Getty Images)Queiroz ended up getting sacked from the Portugal job after they lost in the round of 16 to eventual winners Spain at the 2010 World Cup - though his dismissal was actually a result of being judged to have disrupted the country's anti-doping authority in the build-up to the competition.
Deep breath here: since leaving Portugal following the 2010 World Cup, Queiroz has had spells in charge of Iran, Colombia, Egypt, Iran again, Qatar, Oman, and now, finally Ghana.
His most notable accomplishment across those jobs is leading Iran out at three straight World Cups - by no means a given, historically - and taking Egypt to the 2021 AFCON final, where they were defeated on penalties by Senegal.
